Brick is a large township located right on the water, where the Manasquan River and Metedeconk River meet the bay. It is the 13th largest municipality in New Jersey, having a population of 75,072 as of the 2010 U.S. Census.
Brick has the wonderful distinction of being one of the safest cities around. In fact, in 2006, the Morgan Quitno survey ranked it as “America’s Safest City,” out of 371 cities across the country. This is a major reason why so many people love to call it home.
In addition, the town has good public schools, easy access to the coastline and points north and south, and is also home to various shopping and other amenities.
FUN FACT: Portions of Brick are located on the Barnegat Peninsula, a narrow barrier island that separates the Barnegat Bay from the Atlantic Ocean.
A good portion of the township is located on or very close to the water. As such, the homes in these areas are designed to take advantage of all the views the water provides. More inland, homes are located in more traditional neighborhoods with tree-lined streets and downtown areas.
Brick homes come in all shapes and sizes, but the roofs of these homes are almost all made from asphalt shingles. This type of material is built to withstand the climate and natural forces of the area. What’s nice about asphalt shingles, though, is that it gives Brick homeowners the opportunity to customize the look of the roof because of the different designs and colors available. The three main choices of roof material and style are:
The roofs of Brick homes must be constructed to not only withstand the Central New Jersey region’s climate and frequent fluctuations in temperature, they also must be able to withstand the higher winds, sand and salt that come directly off the bay, even if they are located in the more inland parts of the town.
The roof is one of the most essential parts of your home. It keeps you and your family protected from the elements. Because of this, it’s important to regularly assess the quality and lifespan of your roof, and decide to replace it before it becomes too late.
